Molly and I have always been the type to help. If we see a collision, we stop to see if we can do something. As an old EMT, I have patched up a lot of people on the side of the road as well as direct traffic until the police take over. Molly jumps in when a friend has a problem or things are bothering her friend. She can make the day seem brighter. We have been involved with so many fund (and FUN) raisers, you really wouldn't believe it... That's the way we are. Problem is there aren't a lot of folks who will do that. Now we are not special. There are tons of people who do a LOT MORE than we could ever do. You are probably one of those... thank goodness.
Well, I guess you are wondering what put the bee under my bonnet (expression - I really don't wear a bonnet ... very often) ;-) Anyway, we are putting on a `special event' in our community and need volunteers to help. In some cases, the help is as simple as handing out FREE bottles of water. Even with these simple jobs .. we can't get enough help to give us a hand. Even out local PIZZA place refused to put a flier in there window. Mind you, this place is going to have a booth SELLING pizza at the event. There is no charge to get in on the grounds. There is a FREE DJ with a battle of the bands. I'll be doing FREE balloon animals for all the kids. Molly will be working a table, yes even in her wheelchair, letting people know what all is going on. And this list goes on and on.
When we ask for help, one lady told me she couldn't because she had other plans... You know what her plans are???? to go to this event .. she just doesn't want to be tied down... But the show will go on. Some of us will be pulling double duty to get things done. But they will get done.
Okay, I'll stop feeling sorry for myself ;-) ... I just get aggravated!!!
I was complaining to Molly about the last meeting where we were finalizing the last decisions. I told her nobody seemed to want to help. She opened her COLLECTION of worthless information (her name for her collection) and said I'm emailing you something. We were sitting 4 feet apart.... Yet I opened my email and she sent me a cute thing which I will share with you... It didn't solve my problem and concern BUT it did make me smile. There is a neat lesson in it.

Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, And Nobody
This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Yep, there is a neat lesson in there. Hope you enjoy!!!!
By best as always

JAY, I hope you enjoyed your event. We started a group and hosted a 'night' once a year to show off our projects and have dinner with girlfiends and a little inspirational time with like minded sisters. Each year there was always something that someone would suggest needed done different. The past couple of years we have offered a sign up sheet for each area and it has cut the complaining down a bunch. I brought it up at the start of this years get together (Im the MC) and told the audience how well the concept works, in fact if they "see" anything that looks like it needs to be done, we will sit here and wait while they hop up and do it. Everyone laughed and we had no complaints. Our numbers were a bit smaller but the spirit of the attendees was wonderful. enjoy cw
ReplyDeleteToo bad I don't live in your community; I'm one of those people who doesn't really know how to say "no" so I end up doing just about everything. The good part is that I know many people in my community, and am pretty resourceful. The bad part is that I am exhausted all the time.
ReplyDeleteI love the "body's". I found out that everyone wants everything to happen, but they don't want to be the ones to help.....but DON'T cancel any event.....because all you would have had to do is ask and people will help! Sound familiar?
